About the Exhibit: LEAVE IT TO ME
AHRC NYC's Fisher Center presents "Leave It To Me", an exhibition by artists who attend the day program that serves adults with intellectual disabilities in East Harlem.
Fisher has a thriving art room and fiber art studio offering weekly programming. Led by Art Consultants/Teaching Artists Jon Bunge and Naomi Lawrence, artists are encouraged to frequently participate in creative expression and have opportunities to work with various media, including yarn, colored pencil, markers, paint, and collage.
Often, if not in the art studio, you will find our artists in local community gardens painting, drawing, and making mosaics and often visiting art spaces all across the five boroughs. We are an enthusiastic bunch of creatives, learning together and supporting one another. The Fisher Center artists are inspired by characters they love, activities they take part in, nature, celebrities, cartoons, geometry, and abstraction. The participants find great meaning and pleasure in their work.
The artists are proud to invite family and friends to see their work here, as part of the first exhibition hosted by Positive Exposure in their new home. The Fisher Center is thrilled to be partnering with Positive Exposure, and to be sharing the space with artists from the D75 schools.
The weaving program at Fisher is a collaboration with Intertwine Arts, a nonprofit that brings freeform weaving to people of all ages.
